are you FTBA?

"What does FTBA mean?"  I've heard that a lot.  

How in the world did I come up with Fun To Be Around as a name for an electrical maintenance company?  Let me give you some backstory.      

I believe life is short. And while most people desire to live life to the fullest,

      they go to work…

            …do what is required…

                   …get paid…

                           …and think they can only have fun on the weekends.

Having fun at work happens on occasion but, in my opinion, not enough. I decided I wasn’t going to wait for the weekend to have fun. My life needed more fun than that.   

Having fun is about attitude. I wanted to be fun every day. So, many years ago, I put the initials FtBA on my email signature — Brenda Henwood, FtBA. It was a daily reminder that I needed to be Fun To Be Around.

Engineers, presidents, friends, and clients googled the initials to find out what degree these initials were indicative of. It was hilarious to hear their reaction when I told them it was a self-proclaimed degree to impact people’s lives with fun. It was a source of laughter almost every time I explained it. I used those moments to encourage them to be FtBA, too.   

The number of FtBA people are growing, and I hope it becomes a movement. You can be FtBA no matter where you are or what company you work for. It's about changing your life, and the lives of those around you, with fun each day. Consider this my invitation for you to be FtBA! Come on, just do it!

Take the FtBA philosophy to work and motivate the people in your organization to join the movement! Let’s redefine what the workplace is supposed to be.
